This year, Pantone came up with the color of the year 2021, bringing a message of optimism. The Pantone team has selected two shades to represent the « feeling of the moment »: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating.
Announced when a Covid-19 vaccine was about to be finalized, both colors evoke a dual feeling of a deep fog with a shock of sunlight on a cloudy afternoon.
The 2021 colors are intended to be distinct but complementary.
“The selection of two independant colors highlight how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting, conveying the idea that it’s not about one color or one person, it’s about more than one. The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
